Paper size in pixels: 8.5 × 11, A4, business cards and posters
An 8.5 × 11 in Letter page is 2550 × 3300 pixels at 300 DPI, the usual resolution for print, and 1275 × 1650 pixels at 150 DPI. The table covers US and ISO paper sizes; the calculator below works for any other size.

The formula
Pixels = size in inches × DPI. 300 DPI means 300 pixels per inch, so a Letter page at 300 DPI is 8.5 × 300 = 2550 pixels wide and 11 × 300 = 3300 pixels tall. For a size in millimeters, divide by 25.4 first: an A4 page is 210 ÷ 25.4 × 300 = 2480 pixels wide.

Frequently asked questions
How many pixels is 8.5 x 11?
At 300 DPI, an 8.5 × 11 inch page is 2550 × 3300 pixels. At 150 DPI it’s 1275 × 1650, at 96 DPI 816 × 1056, and at 72 DPI 612 × 792. The paper stays the same size: only the number of pixels per inch changes.
What size is a business card in pixels?
A US business card is 3.5 × 2 inches, so 1050 × 600 pixels at 300 DPI. If your printer asks for bleed (an extra margin that gets trimmed off), add it to the size in inches before you multiply by 300.
Is Letter the same size as A4?
No. Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches; A4 is 210 × 297 mm, about 8.27 × 11.69 inches, so it’s a little narrower and taller. At 300 DPI, Letter is 2550 × 3300 pixels and A4 is 2480 × 3508: a file made for one won’t fit the other exactly.
How many pixels do I need for a poster?
At 300 DPI, an 18 × 24 inch poster takes 5400 × 7200 pixels and a 24 × 36 inch poster 7200 × 10800. For a poster seen from across a room, 150 DPI is often enough, which halves both numbers: 2700 × 3600 and 3600 × 5400.
What if my logo is too small for the size I need?
Vectorize it. A vector file is made of shapes rather than tiny colored squares, so it has no pixel count and prints sharp at any size, from a business card to a 24 × 36 poster. For a photo, print it smaller or upscale it, knowing that upscaling invents detail.
